📰 News we're reading

1. Dozens of dogs rescued from Jefferson County property now in foster homes, LMAS says (wdrb.com) — Louisville Metro Animal Services has placed many of 41 rescued animals from a Jefferson County property into foster homes, but the shelter says it's now in a "dire" space crunch. Officials are urgently asking Louisville residents to sign up as fosters as more dogs and cats are still being removed and some animals continue receiving medical care locally and elsewhere in Kentucky.

2. Officials break ground on 'factory of the future' in southwest Louisville (wlky.com) — A former tire warehouse on Cane Run Road in southwest Louisville is being transformed into a $40 million "factory of the future" to make electrolytes for lithium-ion batteries. The project, backed by Gov. Andy Beshear, promises over 100 jobs and positions Louisville as a key player in America's push to onshore critical EV and battery materials by 2028.

3. Here's how you can save money and time at the Kentucky State Fair (wave3.com) — If you're heading to the Kentucky State Fair at the Expo Center in Louisville, organizers say you can save money by buying $12 admission tickets online, which include free parking. They also recommend downloading the fair's app for maps, schedules, and discount days, arriving before noon on weekdays to avoid crowds, and noting rules on bags, ATMs, and rideshare pickup.

4. Louisville mom raising awareness about distracted driving after losing daughter in accident (wave3.com) — A Louisville mother who lost her nearly 2-year-old daughter in a 2022 I-71 crash is turning her grief into a local campaign against distracted driving. After prosecutors declined charges and civil options expired, she's now fundraising for a memorial billboard near the crash site and sharing Cammie's story online, hoping Louisville drivers think twice before looking at their phones.

5. D'Angelo Hutchinson is the latest Louisville veteran to return amid 5-for-5 court fight (wdrb.com) — Louisville football just got a big boost as standout safety D'Angelo Hutchinson and two other key defenders plan to return, thanks to an evolving court fight over NCAA eligibility for the class of 2022. Their status now hinges on ongoing cases in Colorado and Jefferson Circuit Court in Louisville, which will determine if they can actually suit up this season.
