• Crews clearing the way for a new restaurant on West Prien Lake Road (americanpress.com) — Work has begun to clear land for a new Bubba’s 33 restaurant at West Prien Lake Road and Contraband Parkway in Lake Charles, following a City Council-approved zoning variance for a smaller street buffer. Officials weighed parking needs, future road expansion, and green space, but there’s still no announced opening date for the restaurant. 
• Juneteenth Festival returns with parade, cook-off, concert (americanpress.com) — Lake Charles residents can look forward to a full week of Faye Brown Blackwell Juneteenth Festival events, from a parade and car show at the Lake Charles Event Center to concerts, cook-offs, and a gospel brunch. Activities at Ward 3 Recreation Center, Rosa Hart Theatre, Geebeaux’s, and more will spotlight local Black culture, youth, and community unity across Southwest Louisiana.
• Dr. John Noble, McNeese advocate and UL System board member, dies (kplctv.com) — Lake Charles is mourning Dr. John Noble, a McNeese alumnus, longtime team physician, and University of Louisiana System board member who represented the Lake Charles area. McNeese officials praised his decades of service to the university, medicine, and local athletics, and the campus will lower flags to half-staff next week in his honor.
