Investigators matched the fish’s distinctive tail and his clothing from a patrol encounter to a later social media post, leading to attempted theft and forgery charges.
   

• VPSB votes to extend, expand search for next superintendent. (theleesvilleleader.com) — Leesville-area families should know the Vernon Parish School Board has extended its search for a new superintendent by 30 days after receiving only one application so far. The move aims to attract more candidates before longtime superintendent James Williams retires, as seven board seats also turn over at year’s end, setting up major leadership changes for local schools.
   

• Mom accused of leaving children at home while she visited bar (americanpress.com) — Leesville residents should know that a 28-year-old local woman was arrested after deputies say her three young children were found home alone late at night in a Vernon Parish residence. Authorities report the children, ages 2, 3, and 6, were discovered unsupervised, and the mother later admitted she had gone to a bar. The children are now in protective custody.
