New Orleans homeowners could soon pay hundreds more in property taxes (fox8live.com) — New Orleans homeowners may soon face property tax bills that are hundreds of dollars higher if the city rolls millages forward to close a major budget gap. Officials say no final decision is made, but data from the assessor shows sizable increases for typical homes, and a public hearing is set for Oct. 29 before the City Council decides.
   

2. St. Paul's Senior Center: A United Thank Offering Grant Recipient (episcopalchurch.org) — A longtime New Orleans senior center that began as a Katrina recovery hub in Lakeview and later moved to Gentilly now offers everything from bingo and computer classes to scripture study and volunteer projects. Thanks to a United Thank Offering grant, seniors enjoy fresh produce, new technology, and a garden they planted themselves, turning shared loss into daily connection, purpose, and service.
   

3. Hispanic Heritage Month: How to celebrate in the New Orleans-area (wwltv.com) — New Orleans-area residents have a full month of Hispanic Heritage celebrations to choose from, with concerts, talks, festivals, and art events running through mid-October. Local institutions like the Jazz Museum, NOMA, French Market, Audubon Zoo, and The Broadside are hosting music, food, and cultural showcases, plus a major Qué Pasa Fest at Lafreniere Park and a Honduran art exhibition in Metairie.
   

4. Kenner councilmembers ask attorney general to weigh in on fight over aviation board nominations (fox8live.com) — New Orleans readers may see changes in airport oversight as Kenner councilmembers ask Louisiana's attorney general to rule on how their city's representative to the New Orleans Aviation Board is chosen. The dispute centers on whether Kenner's mayor or council controls nominations, after a contested appointment that New Orleans Mayor Helena Moreno and the City Council have already approved.
