Maine Leaders, veterans gather at UMA to commemorate Sept. 11 anniversary (wabi.tv) — Residents in Augusta gathered at the University of Maine at Augusta for a solemn Sept. 11 remembrance, featuring a moment of silence and a walk to the campus memorial garden. Local veterans, students, and state leaders reflected on how the attacks shaped Maine's military community and emphasized the importance of continuing to honor those lost.
   

2. Register for French Immersion Weekend by Oct. 28 - University of Maine at Augusta (uma.edu) — Augusta-area French learners can spend November 6–7 immersed in language and culture at the University of Maine at Augusta's French Immersion Weekend. With workshops, an African music concert, optional dinner, and scholarship options for UMA students, the program welcomes high schoolers, college students, teachers, and community members at all comfort levels in French.
   

3. Fairfield man accused of shooting at CMP substations released from federal custody (newscentermaine.com) — An Augusta Central Maine Power substation was among three facilities allegedly shot at in February, briefly cutting power to more than 10,000 customers before service was restored. A Fairfield man accused in the attacks has now been released from federal custody under strict conditions while he awaits trial on destruction-of-energy-facility charges.
   

4. Protect Girls' Sports in Maine Committee shifts focus to get referendum on 2027 ballot (wabi.tv) — A statewide campaign over school sports rules has wound through Augusta's courts, with Maine's high court upholding a decision that kept the "Protect Girls' Sports" referendum off this year's ballot. After losing at the Capitol Judicial Center and in federal court timing, organizers are now racing to gather more signatures to try again for 2027.
   

5. Obituary: Donald Edward Morgan (centralmaine.com) — Family and friends are invited to honor Donald Edward Morgan of Canaan, a Navy veteran who passed away at Togus Spring in Augusta, with a graveside service at the veterans cemetery in Augusta on October 2. His life included military service, trucking and heavy equipment work around the country, and a love of gardening, hunting, and fishing shared with a large extended family.
