1. Flix & Greyhound Partnership Expansion and Campus Traffic Safety Enhancements - University of Maine at Augusta (uma.edu) — A new Flix and Greyhound bus stop at the University of Maine at Augusta's Randall Student Center will soon give Augusta residents and students easier connections between Bangor, Boston, and several Maine cities. To support the stop, UMA is adding stop signs, speed bumps, and active traffic enforcement around the center to slow vehicles and improve pedestrian safety.
   

2. Historic tombs, giant blueberry attraction are among Maine's most endangered historic places of 2026 (pressherald.com) — Handley Hall in downtown Augusta, home to the University of Maine at Augusta's architecture program, has landed on Maine Preservation's 2026 list of most endangered historic places because of repair costs and a proposed program move. Advocates warn relocating could hurt Augusta's civic life and a key training pipeline, while other threatened sites in Bath, Columbia Falls and Eastport also seek support.
   

3. Augusta's First Amendment Museum reopens with new interactive exhibits (wabi.tv) — Augusta residents can now visit the newly reopened First Amendment Museum on State Street, which is offering free guided and self-guided tours through the end of 2026. After two years of renovations, the Gannett House's first floor now features five interactive exhibits, each focused on a different First Amendment freedom, including a hands-on press freedom simulation for visitors.
   

4. CMP: This Maine summer was second hottest on record—that's why it needs to increase rates, fortify grid (newscentermaine.com) — From Augusta, Central Maine Power is pushing for a rate increase that would add about $18 a month to average bills, arguing this summer's extreme heat shows the grid needs upgrades. The company cites thousands of heat-related outages and a July shutdown in Ogunquit as evidence that investing now will prevent worse disruptions later.
   

5. Farmingdale man narrowly escapes burning home with help from his neighbor (wmtw.com) — A Farmingdale man was rushed first to MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta, then flown to Portland, after narrowly escaping a serious house fire on Roberta Street with help from a quick-acting neighbor. Firefighters battled heavy flames, and investigators say the blaze started on or near a living room couch, though the exact cause is still under investigation.
