Nearly one in five students is chronically absent, and the principal says inconsistent home routines and broader family challenges, rather than transportation or appointments, are driving the problem despite various school incentives.
   

• ‘It'll be a concern': Gov. Mills reacts to Legislature passing of data centers bill without Jay exemption (wabi.tv) — A proposed statewide moratorium on new data centers has passed the Legislature without the Jay paper mill exemption Gov. Janet Mills had sought, putting the Jay redevelopment project in question. Mills says she’s still reviewing the bill but admits the lack of a Jay carveout is a concern, even as she highlights the potential jobs, tax revenue, and reuse of existing industrial infrastructure there.
   

• The bills that Maine lawmakers passed — and didn't pass — this year (sunjournal.com) — Maine lawmakers wrapped up a busy session that produced new rules on immigration enforcement, AI in political ads, school funding, housing, and transportation safety, while leaving some big issues unresolved. One closely watched bill would temporarily ban new data centers statewide, and Gov. Mills has flagged its lack of a carveout for a proposed project in Jay as a concern.
