Built with accessible ramps and years of community support, the bridge is a key step toward a larger connector route that will open more miles of trails right in town.

Portland, Maine, considers proposal to ban standing on medians (wmtw.com) — Portland city councilors are weighing a new ordinance that would ban people from standing, sitting, or staying on median strips after crashes and a recent death at busy intersections. With 17 dangerous spots identified around Maine's largest city, officials say the goal is to slow traffic and steer pedestrians to safer areas, with a council vote expected Monday, Sept. 21.

Portland football runs wild in blowout victory over Windham (pressherald.com) — Portland High's football team thrilled home fans Friday night with a dominant 39-13 win over Windham at Fitzpatrick Stadium, powered by huge rushing performances from Alex Martin and David Gomes. The Bulldogs, now 3-0, showcased a punishing ground game and opportunistic defense, reinforcing their status as a top Class A contender and giving Portland supporters plenty to cheer about.

4. Tri for a Cure named Maine's most popular triathlon (wmtw.com) — Just minutes from Portland, the women's-only Tri for a Cure in South Portland has been named Maine's top triathlon by Triathlete magazine, thanks to its huge participation and fundraising. Each year more than 1,200 women swim, bike, and run along the South Portland and Cape Elizabeth shoreline, raising millions for the Maine Cancer Foundation and directly supporting cancer care across the state.
