Maryland House Races To Watch
All eight Maryland U.S. House seats are on the ballot, with the 6th District’s recent election history, Maryland’s only Republican-held seat in the 1st District and an open seat in the 5th District drawing attention.
6th District: Democratic Rep. April McClain Delaney faces Republican Robin Ficker and Green Party candidate Moshe Landman. McClain Delaney won about 53% of the vote in 2024, though Cook Political Report rates this year’s race Solid Democratic.
McClain Delaney’s background includes communications policy work in the Biden administration and advocacy on children’s online safety. Ficker has emphasized support for businesses and police, stronger border enforcement and expanded domestic energy production.
1st District: Republican Rep. Andy Harris faces Democrat Dan Schwartz. Harris, Maryland’s only Republican congressman, chairs the House Freedom Caucus and has emphasized fiscal responsibility and protecting taxpayer money. Schwartz, who has worked with financial regulators, has focused on consumer protections and reversing cuts to health care and food assistance.
5th District: Democratic state Del. Adrian Boafo faces Republican Chris Chaffee for the seat opening with Rep. Steny Hoyer’s retirement. Hoyer has endorsed Boafo, whose platform includes a $15 federal minimum wage tied to inflation, expanded child care and protections for federal workers. Chaffee supports voter identification requirements, stricter border controls and expanded child care tax relief.
The remaining House contests are:
- 2nd District: Democratic Rep. Johnny Olszewski faces Republican Dave Wallace.
- 3rd District: Democratic Rep. Sarah Elfreth faces Republican Berney Flowers.
