Once on the scene, investigators determined that the fire had originated in a first-floor bathroom. It took officials nearly an hour to bring the fire under control due to "hoarding conditions," the department said.

Two individuals were evaluated at the scene for smoke inhalation but refused a hospital visit. One firefighter was taken to the hospital.

AFD Captain Bud Zapata told Patch that the firefighter was taken to the hospital after "not feeling well" at the scene. Medics had determined the first responder required further evaluation.
As of Thursday, the firefighter is "doing well," Zapata said.
Both the cause and cost of the fire remain under investigation.
Some 40 firefighters helped to extinguish the fire, according to the department.
In addition to the AFD, the Anne Arundel County Fire Department, Naval District Washington Fire Department Annapolis, and the Red Cross assisted at the scene.
