Baltimore Nurse Sentenced For Diverting Morphine From 10-Year-Old Patient (patch.com) — Baltimore readers should know that a local nurse received a short jail sentence and probation for diverting morphine from a 10-year-old open-heart surgery patient at the University of Maryland Medical Center. Prosecutors say colleagues noticed the child's unmanaged pain and signs of impairment in the nurse, leading to her firing and restrictions on caring for children or working in government-funded health programs.

After court loss, Mayor Scott's Office doubles down on accusations against Baltimore IG (foxbaltimore.com) — A Baltimore judge has ordered the city to restore Inspector General Isabel Cumming's access to records, but Mayor Brandon Scott's administration is still accusing her of abusing that access and weighing its legal options. The clash could shape how aggressively the city's watchdog can investigate fraud and waste in Baltimore government, and how much oversight residents can expect going forward.
   

3. Baltimore police search for Douglass Homes shooting suspect (wbaltv.com) — A mass shooting outside Douglass Homes in East Baltimore left seven people injured, including a 3-year-old boy who remains in serious condition, and police are still searching for suspects. Community groups and the Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety are supporting families and neighbors, while Crime Stoppers and a youth foundation have posted $12,000 in rewards for tips.
   

4. 'Make it a symbol of pride': Historical group calls on city to clean Baltimore's Battle Monument (wmar2news.com) — Baltimore's historic Battle Monument in downtown is deteriorating, with pieces falling off, soot staining its surface, and its flagpole standing bare, and a local historical group is urging the city to clean and restore it. Members say they've filed many complaints with Baltimore officials and are now calling on both the city and residents to help return this official city symbol to a source of pride.
   

5. Loyola Blakefield tackles the all-school Mass problem, dedicating a new altar (americamagazine.org) — Loyola Blakefield in Towson, long connected to Baltimore's Catholic community, has dedicated a handcrafted portable altar so all-school Masses in the gym feel more reverent. Archbishop William Lori of Baltimore blessed the altar during a Sept. 11 Mass that also honored a 9/11 victim alumnus, and students celebrated when he surprised them with an extra day off.
