The proposal may reduce the Board of Estimates' dominance and give City Council more say over where key financial powers sit, potentially changing how budgets and procurement work across Baltimore government.
   

2. Suspect in custody after West Baltimore barricade incident (cbsnews.com) — Police took a person into custody Saturday after a tense barricade situation on Braddish Avenue in West Baltimore, where an armed man allegedly brandished a gun during a vehicle sale. SWAT officers surrounded the home after reports of shots fired, but no injuries were reported and the scene was brought under control that afternoon.
   

3. Baltimore's last Outback Steakhouse is closing for good (rollingout.com) — Baltimore's last Outback Steakhouse, on Boston Street in Canton, will close by year's end, ending more than two decades as a familiar waterfront dining spot. The landlord plans to replace the chain with more locally focused tenants as the Canco complex continues shifting toward new restaurants, credit union space, and expanded offices.

Baltimore arrest caught on camera sparks questions after police misidentify man (wbal.com) — An East Baltimore arrest caught on video is drawing scrutiny after officers, working with U.S. Postal inspectors, mistakenly detained a 20-year-old man at gunpoint on a warrant meant for someone else. Baltimore County police, who made the arrest in the city, say he was released without charges and are conducting an administrative review, while the family consults a lawyer.
   

5. SUN: Baltimore names second official city tree, replacing Callery pear (foxbaltimore.com) — Baltimore has officially named the native Tuliptree as its new city tree, replacing the invasive and foul-smelling Callery pear chosen in the 1970s. Announced at TreeBaltimore's Summer Gathering at Cylburn Arboretum, the change highlights a push toward native, climate-resilient species that better suit Maryland's environment and local neighborhoods.
