Baltimore nonprofit got $4M in tax dollars before funding was frozen (foxbaltimore.com) — Baltimore City residents should know a local housing nonprofit, NEHI, received over $4 million in city and state funds before payments were frozen amid a federal investigation and missing financial disclosures. With tax-exempt status revoked and multiple lawsuits and liens pending, officials are now pausing funding, seeking potential clawbacks, and reviewing how taxpayer-supported housing projects were overseen.
   

2. Baltimore water supply to use Susquehanna River as early as October (wbaltv.com) — Baltimore's water system will start blending Susquehanna River water with Loch Raven Reservoir supplies in early October because persistent drought has lowered reservoir levels, and residents may notice changes in taste or color. DPW says the water will remain safe and fully treated but is urging Baltimore and eastern Baltimore County customers to keep conserving under voluntary restrictions by cutting lawn watering, shortening showers, and fixing leaks.
   

3. Oil Collective Helps Community Members Build Financial Confidence and Entrepreneurial Skills (umaryland.edu) — A new Oil Collective series at the UMB Community Engagement Center in Baltimore is offering residents free workshops on budgeting, entrepreneurship, and mental wellness, with sessions running through December. Led by the nonprofit Led Ladies and UMB Workforce Initiatives, the program welcomes all community members who want to build financial confidence, explore business ideas, and strengthen their overall well-being.
   

4. Judge Orders Baltimore to Restore Inspector General's Access, Rejects City's 'Unfettered Access' Defense (mdbaynews.com) — A Baltimore judge has ordered City Hall to restore Inspector General Isabel Cumming's access to key computer systems within two business days and to turn over subpoenaed records within 45 days, strengthening oversight of city agencies. The ruling rejects Mayor Brandon Scott's argument about "unfettered access," bars future stonewalling of OIG subpoenas, and could shape how corruption and mismanagement are investigated in Baltimore government.
   

5. Baltimore hotel is awarded two MICHELIN Keys (baltimorefishbowl.com) — Baltimore's Ivy Hotel in historic Mount Vernon has earned a prestigious Two-Key rating in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide, the only Maryland property with that distinction. The Black-owned boutique hotel is recognized for its design, service, and sense of place, offering 17 rooms, a spa, Magdalena bistro, and amenities like afternoon tea and house car service.
