City of Baltimore: Bullets of 1972-73 1st Game vs Cavs, Last Game vs Knicks the NBA ECF '26 Matchup

May 18, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting the Baltimore Bullets of 1972-73 played their 1st game of the season vs the Cleveland Cavaliers and last-game of the season vs the NY Knicks.

The Eastern Conference Finals will begin tomorrow night when the visiting Cavaliers led by Donovan Mitchell take-on Karl-Anthony Towns, Jalen Brunson and the NY Knicks. The first-two games of the ECF will be played at the "Mecca of Basketball", Madison Square Garden (MSG).

Back in 1973 was the last-time the NY Knicks won an NBA Championship, it's been 53-years. They defeated the Los Angeles Lakers 4-1. A member of that Knicks '72-73 team was Phil Jackson who would go-on later in his coaching career to win 5 NBA Championships with the LA Lakers.

Former Bullets star-guard Earl "The Pearl" Monroe was also a member of the '73 Knicks Championship team. Jackson, Monroe and Knicks star Walt "Clyde" Frazier were all selected in the 1967 NBA Draft. Pat Riley was also a member of the '67 Draft.

Prior to the Lakers 5 Chips, Jackson was the coach of the Chicago Bulls where he guided Michael Jordan & Scottie Pippen to 6 NBA Championships in 8-years with two 3-Peats (91-93, 96-98).

Former Baltimore Bullets shooting-guard as a player Rod Thorn was the NBA Executive for the Bulls in 1984 that drafted Jordan with the 3rd overall pick. Thorn was the 2nd overall (West Virginia) pick by the Bullets in the 1963 NBA Draft.

The 1972-73 Bullets played their last-season here in Baltimore. Charm City wasn't coined for the B'more until 1975. They had a good regular-season going 52-30 and winning the Central Division of the NBA. Their 1st win of the campaign was vs the Cleveland Cavaliers on October 10, 1972, a 102-90 victory on the road. The Bullets last-game as the Baltimore Bullets was a 97-89 loss on April 8, 1973 vs the Knicks. New York defeated the Bullets 4-1 to win the Eastern Conference Semifinals.

New York moved-on to face the Boston Celtics in '73 ECF. The Knicks defeated Boston 4-3 winning the all-important game-7 at the old Boston Garden.

2026 marked the 55th Anniversary of the Bullets reaching the 1971 NBA Finals vs the Milwaukee Bucks. The Bucks swept Baltimore in 4-games. On April 25, 1971 the 1st of two NBA Finals games where played here at the Civic Center that is now known as CFG Arena.

The second game was on April 30 (Bucks win 118-106). The Bucks were led by veteran star Oscar Robertson and young superstar center Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Abdul-Jabbar would later join the Lakers in 1975 and win 5 NBA Championships with Magic Johnson.

Here's to a competitive and entertaining ECF Cavs vs Knicks with a little Baltimore Bullets past-history.
