Construction Affects Southbound I-95 Travel Lanes, On-Ramp
Officials advise drivers to be alert to the new traffic pattern on southbound I-95 and an on-ramp as part of a construction project.
HARFORD COUNTY, MD — Drivers should be aware that a new traffic pattern will take effect on southbound I-95 at the MD 24 interchange starting this week and lasting until fall.
As part of the state's ongoing $1.1 billion plan to relieve congestion and improve travel along I-95 between Baltimore and Harford counties, the project splits traffic on southbound I-95 with one lane to the left and three lanes to the right of barrier walls just south of the MD 24 interchange. Signs will guide drivers as they approach the traffic split, officials said.
The new traffic pattern will allow crews to continue construction of the new bridge over Winters Run as part of the overall reconstruction of the I-95/MD 24 interchange. Drivers are advised to use caution and slow down as crews will be working behind the barrier walls.

A new traffic pattern also will be implemented on southbound MD 24 at the on-ramp to southbound I-95, with the two left lanes continuing south on MD 24, and the two right lanes exiting to the on-ramp. The on-ramp will be reduced to one lane prior to entering southbound I-95.
The work zone speed limit on southbound I-95 will be reduced to 55 mph. Automated speed enforcement is in effect to slow motorists and help improve safety for work crews, drivers and passengers. Fines for exceeding the posted work zone speed limit range from $60 to $1,000. Flashing lights will be activated in the work zone when workers are present, too, officials noted.
