2 Dogs Rescued, Homeowner Displaced After House Fire

Dozens of firefighters responded to a Bethesda house fire that saw the rescue of two dogs and amounted to about $200,000 in damages.

BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE, MD — A house fire left one homeowner displaced Sunday as first responders worked to rescue two dogs who remained inside the home.

Emergency crews responded around 5 p.m. to the 6200 block of Perthshire Court and Drumaldry Drive, off Greentree Road, after a fire broke out inside the home's kitchen.

Pete Piringer, spokesperson for the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire was reported by the homeowner after they found heavy smoke when they returned home.

He also said two dogs had remained inside the home in cages as the smoke conditions prevented the homeowner from retrieving the pets at that time.

About 45 firefighters were said to have reported to the scene.

David Pazos, of the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire was initially reported by a passerby.

Piringer said no injuries were reported as a result of the house fire, which investigators say sustained about $200,000 in damages.

Early findings suggest the fire was likely caused by electrical lines behind the kitchen stove and dishwasher.
