Across the world, female artists make economic gains that propel families, even communities into living standards far beyond their previous reach. From the northern highlands of Guatemala to Afghanistan’s arid desert, women creatives drive social change. Their earnings afford uniforms required for children to attend school, give neighborhoods running water, and boost health with better nutrition. As providers, women gain agency. Our Folk Art is Fine Art: Textiles that Talk exhibition featured women artist groups around the world changing the equation. Among them is Basha, a Bangladesh-based group transforming lives of at-risk women through textiles.

Our K/NOW DIALOGUE: Artistry and Agency examines art, money, and women in developing economies with two leading voices: Basha Founder Robin Seyfert and World Bank Gender Group Senior Economist, Diego Javier Ubfal. Join us Saturday, April 18th at noon for art’s impact on one of the leading indicators of economic growth, female engagement.
