DC Water To Hold Bethesda Meeting On Potomac River Spill

Two meetings will be held this week by DC Water to address the utility agency's response to the Potomac River sewage spill.

BETHESDA-CHEVY CHASE, MD — DC Water will host a public community meeting this week to provide residents with a comprehensive update on their response to the sewage spill in the Potomac River.

To date, more than 200 million gallons of wastewater have flowed into the Potomac River after the Potomac Interceptor, a sewer line that runs through a portion of Montgomery County, collapsed on Jan. 24.

The line is owned and operated by DC Water.

The meeting will be held in the cafeteria of Walt Whitman High School, located at 7100 Whittier Blvd. at 7 p.m. on Thursday.

The meeting will cover an overview of what occurred, the utility's immediate response actions, a current repair timeline and the long-term Capital Improvement Plan commitments.

The following officials will be taking part in the event:

  • David L. Gadis, CEO and General Manager, DC Water
  • Matt Brown, Chief Operating Officer, DC Water
  • Kirsten Williams, Chief Administrative Officer, DC Water
  • Moussa Wone, Chief Engineer, DC Water
  • Jeff Peterson, Director, Clean Rivers Project, DC Water

Residents will have the opportunity to ask questions about the matter.

DC Water will also host a community meeting Wednesday at the DC Water headquarters at 1385 Canal Street in D.C. at 7 p.m.
