Former MD Mayor Indicted On Embezzlement, Fraud, Theft Charges

A former mayor and treasurer of the Maryland Mayors' Association and Prince George's County Municipal Association faces several charges.

PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, MD — The former treasurer of the Maryland Mayors' Association has been indicted on charges of embezzlement, fraud and theft.

Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson announced the indictment of 52-year-old Bennard Cann in connection with the misappropriation and embezzlement of Maryland Mayors’ Association and Prince George’s County Municipal Association funds between February 2017 and January 2025.

Cann is the former mayor of the town of Morningside and the former treasurer of both the Maryland Mayors’ Association and Prince George’s County Municipal Association.

Cann has been indicted on one count of theft scheme with a value of $100,000, three counts of theft scheme with a value of $25,000 to $100,000 and three counts of embezzlement and fraudulent misappropriation.
