May 23, 2026 - The "Charm'tastic Mile" of Baltimore (CTMB-1.3) www.thecharmtasticmile.com. The chic & famed 1.3 mile corridor located in the heart of Charm City (Est.1975) that connects Dwtn-West, the Inner Harbor & Harbor East (S. Greene & W. Pratt Street to S. President & Fleet Street) that is now listed on Google search as one of the Top 10-15 Most Famous Streets in America is reporting today is the 153rd Anniversary (1873-2026) of the very 1st Inaugural Preakness Stakes

Last-Saturday May 16th, the 151st Preakness Stakes was run at Laurel Park, Napoleon Solo, at 10-1 won the race. The race was held at Laurel Park due to the new construction project at Pimlico.

On Friday May 23, 1873 the very 1st Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course was run with a 7-horse field. With an estimated 12,000 in attendance Survivor and his jockey George Barbee etched themselves into horse racing history. Survivor won the race by a staggering 10 lengths.

The Preakness name came about after a colt named Preakness won the Dinner Party Stakes and Pimlico's opening in 1870. (Sources: MD. State Archives, Baltimore Sun (1995), Maryland.gov.)

100-years later on May 19, 1973, was the 98th running of the Preakness at Pimlico, arguably the greatest race horse of all-time Secretariat won the 2nd leg of the Triple Crown. Secretariat would go-on to win the Belmont Stakes and win the '73 Triple Crown. His amazing 31 lengths win at the Belmont remains one of the most astonishing achievements in sports. 2023 marked the 50th Anniversary of Secretariat's Triple Crown victory.

The 2026 Belmont Stakes will be held on June 6th at Saratoga Race Course. Belmont Park (like Pimlico), home of the Belmont Stakes, is under a 455 million reconstruction project.
