• Howard County Executive Ball Seeks Eligible Members for Police Accountability Board from Councilmanic Districts 2 and 5 (howardcountymd.gov) — Howard County is seeking Columbia residents from Councilmanic District 2 to fill a key seat on the Police Accountability Board, which oversees complaints and disciplinary trends involving local law enforcement. If you live in eastern Columbia, are 25 or older, and active in community service, you can apply by September 4 for this three‑year term shaping police accountability policy.
   

• Local kids learn basketball skills at a camp with DC police officers (wtop.com) — A D.C. police-run basketball camp for local kids has an unexpected Columbia connection through Sgt. Taariq Cephas, who also volunteers at Howard Community College in Columbia. The four-day camp focused on skills, confidence, and building trust between youth and officers, showing how regional partnerships can indirectly benefit Columbia's own community programs and relationships.
