For over a century, it has provided boys aged nine to fifteen the most meaningful experiences of their lives. On a small island in Maine’s Belgrade Lakes, campers live unplugged—without electricity or running water. They gain the freedom to make meaningful choices, the support of a community grounded in shared values, and enough time away from home to feel both independent and integral to a unique community they help build. Whether your son is shy or outgoing, big or small, Pine Island will challenge him to bring out his best in the simple joys and varied circumstances of outdoor living. Interpreting the evolving relationship between people and the Chesapeake Bay through the prism of our historic 19th century home and waterfront property. We sit on the Shady Side Peninsula in southern Anne Arundel County, nestled along the banks of the West River. We invite you to enjoy the beauty of our rain gardens, outdoor exhibits, and sweeping view of the Chesapeake Bay without disrupting the natural processes taking place. Hours of Operation The house museum is open to the public between Memorial Day and Labor Day, as well as special events throughout the year. The grounds are open all year, dawn til dusk. Property &amp; Grounds On the National Register of Historic Places, the Captain Avery Museum was once the 19th century home of a waterman and his family. Over three centuries, this house has borne witness to social, cultural and environmental changes. It has been renovated, expanded upon, and even moved from its original plot. Whoof on the Wharf is not your typical kayak rental spot. While we will rent to anyone and have kayaks of all sizes, we specialize in getting folks out on the water with their pups. We have dog life jackets of all sizes, and a clubhouse with all sorts of doggie treats for when you come back from your adventure. During the week we will be featuring doga classes on Tuesday evenings starting in October 2021 with Dynamic Doga.
