This Howard County 250 and Howard County Commission for Veterans and Military Families co-hosted event will recognize the vital role of the United States Armed Forces in shaping the nation’s history while celebrating the men and women who continue to serve with honor today.
This 250th Birthday Celebration will honor the founding anniversaries of the US Army (June 14, 1775), US Navy (October 13, 1775), and the US Marine Corps (November 10, 1775).
The celebration will feature displays showcasing America’s military history, including period uniforms, military reenactors, and vintage military vehicles. 3 large rooms will be dedicated to the display of 250 years of Army, Navy, and Marine Corps history and historical artifacts.
Event organizers anticipate participation from active-duty military units, historians, veterans, veteran service organizations, and living history interpreters, offering attendees an immersive and educational experience.
Event gates will open at 10:45 a.m., with a formal program beginning at 1:00 p.m. under the tent. The formal program will include a military color guard, a military band, remarks from distinguished guests, a demonstration by the USMC Silent Drill Platoon, and will be attended by elected officials, state and county leaders, active-duty service members, veterans, and community members. Voices of Vets, an all-Veteran musical group, will perform beginning at 2:00 p.m. A special Flag Raising Ceremony will occur at 11am, with a Flag Lowering (Retreat) Ceremony beginning at 3:20pm (both in front of the Belmont Manor).
