📰 News we're reading

• Email Scam Swindles Money By Impersonating Howard Co. Staffers (patch.com) — Howard County officials are warning residents, including those in Ellicott City, about a scam email impersonating Department of Planning and Zoning staff and demanding payments for forms. The county stresses that DPZ will never request wire transfers, peer-to-peer payments, or cryptocurrency by email and urges anyone contacted to delete the message and, if money or data was shared, file a report with Howard County police.

• New Howard Co. Fire Station Saves Lives, Trains Aspiring First Responders (patch.com) — Construction of the new $18.8 million Fire Station 15 along Route 108 in Ellicott City will soon begin, bringing expanded emergency services and on-site EMT classrooms for local high school students. The station, paired with the adjacent Career and Technical Education Center, will let more Howard County teens train as first responders and is part of a broader plan that includes a future Fire Station 16 in western Ellicott City.

• The National Honey Board has named the best beers (beerinfo.com) — Ellicott City's Manor Hill Brewing earned a gold medal for its Nature's Whimsy sour in the National Honey Board's 2026 Honey Beer Competition. The nationwide contest judged more than 150 honey beers, putting the local brewery alongside top winners from Chicago, Denver, and other beer hubs, and spotlighting Ellicott City on the craft beer map.
