Residents (patch.com) — Howard County residents, especially those near Ellicott City, are being urged to check new FEMA flood maps that may newly classify their properties as high-risk and require flood insurance. A public meeting on Oct. 7 at The Capitoline Center in Ellicott City will help homeowners review updated maps, understand their flood risk, and learn about potential insurance requirements and preparedness tools.
   

• MACo's Oct 22 Information Technology Conference To Focus on AI, Modernization, and Federal Policy Updates (mdcounties.org) — A major statewide county information technology conference is coming to Turf Valley in Ellicott City on October 22, bringing Maryland officials together to discuss AI, cybersecurity, and federal IT policy updates. Local government professionals can register now, with MACo members and state employees getting priority access and municipalities or nonprofits possibly added from a waitlist after October 15.
