MoCo Flooding Leaves Driver Stranded, Partially Collapses Bridge

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, MD — Severe weather that left the majority of Maryland under a thunderstorm watch on Tuesday led to several road closures and one partially collapsed bridge.

In Gaithersburg, officials implemented road closures after heavy rain and flooding caused a partial bridge collapse on the northbound lanes of Woodfield Road.

The Montgomery County Police Department said the collapse was recorded Tuesday around 8 p.m., between Brink and Exodus roads.

Drivers were being urged to avoid the area and take alternate routes until further notice. See video of Tuesday's lightning.

No injuries were reported in relation to the collapsed bridge, which was undergoing repairs Wednesday.

Elsewhere in the county, in Brookville, Tuesday's severe weather left a woman stranded inside her car, surrounded by about two feet of floodwaters.

The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service said the incident took place on the 1900 block of Brighton Dam Road shortly after 9 p.m.

First responders were alerted to the incident after the woman reported being unable to exit the vehicle. See video of the stranded vehicle.

Officials said the driver was the sole occupant of the car, adding that she refused medical transport but was uninjured.
