1. More self-service vehicle emissions kiosks planned for Montgomery, Prince George's counties (wtop.com) — Drivers in Gaithersburg can now use a new 24-hour self-service emissions testing kiosk at the MVA branch on Metropolitan Grove Road, paying slightly less than full-service testing. The state plans additional kiosks across Montgomery and Prince George's counties, aiming to make required emissions checks faster and more convenient for local residents while supporting cleaner air.
   

2. Robberies, Burglaries, Auto Theft and Weapons Offense Included in September 28th Daily Summary (mocoshow.com) — Montgomery County Police reported three commercial burglaries Monday in the 6th District, affecting businesses on Shady Grove Road and both West and East Diamond Avenue in Gaithersburg. Intruders broke into storage units and a business, taking property in two of the incidents, while other districts saw robberies, auto theft, and a weapons offense elsewhere in the county.
   

3. Marguerite G. Forget 1928-2026 (fcfreepresspa.com) — Family and friends are honoring the life of 98-year-old Marguerite G. Forget, whose inurnment will take place at a later date at Gates of Heaven Cemetery in Gaithersburg. The longtime Chambersburg resident is remembered for her work in banking and healthcare, love of travel with her late husband Julien, and deep connections to those who knew her.
   

4. Pawpaw panic: Regional shortage forces a chef, farmers markets to pivot (bethesdamagazine.com) — A late-April frost has sharply reduced this year's pawpaw and other fruit harvests across Montgomery County, affecting markets that Gaithersburg residents frequent and even canceling a pawpaw-themed event. Local chefs and farmers are scrambling to adapt, but experts at Montgomery Parks' Pope Farm Nursery in Gaithersburg say the lighter crop could set up an especially abundant pawpaw season next year.
