• Maryland Park Remains Partially Closed Following Beaver Attack (thebaynet.com) — A child was bitten by a beaver at Seneca Creek State Park, just outside Gaithersburg, prompting officials to close a one‑mile trail section and nearby parking area near Berryville Road along the Potomac. Wildlife staff and Natural Resources Police are searching for the animal, while the rest of the park remains open and residents are reminded that beaver attacks are extremely rare.
   

• Advocates raise concerns about police response, fatal shooting at Gaithersburg bus stop (bethesdamagazine.com) — Community advocates are demanding a transparent investigation after police fatally shot Elliott Powers at a Gaithersburg bus stop in July, raising concerns about deescalation and racial disparities. The case, now under state review, has renewed scrutiny of prior Gaithersburg incidents and prompted an August 27 safety meeting at South Lake Elementary for Gaithersburg and Montgomery Village residents to question officials and learn about services.
