GLEN BURNIE, MD — Months after being declared at risk of collapsing, the Empire Towers building in Glen Burnie no longer has a 150-foot safety perimeter.

County officials announced Thursday that the stabilization work was complete and signed off on by the Department of Inspections & Permits.

However, while the perimeter is no longer in effect, officials say it will be a few days before road barriers are removed.

For the time being, both the Empire Towers building and the parking garage remain closed to the public.

Access to the 10-story office building has been blocked off since July, when unpermitted construction work in the underground garage made the building unstable.
