📰 News we're reading

• Family Fun Events in the DMV: Sept. 4-7 (washingtonfamily.com) — Greenbelt's annual Labor Day Festival returns Sept. 4–7 at the Historic Roosevelt Center, with four days of rides, games, and family activities right in town. Residents can enjoy everything from a pet show to a diaper derby and adult-focused events, all free to attend, making it one of Greenbelt's biggest community weekends of the year.

• NASA's Roman telescope is in space. But don't expect photos until 2027 (miamiherald.com) — NASA's new Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope is now en route to its deep-space orbit, with mission control based at Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt. Local scientists will help manage a five-year effort to map the universe, study dark energy, and hunt exoplanets, though the first public images aren't expected until late 2026 or early 2027.

• Federal judge allows Trump's new birthright citizenship orde (conservativejournalreview.com) — A federal judge in Greenbelt has allowed President Trump's new birthright citizenship order to remain in effect for now, while signaling skepticism and fast-tracking further legal challenges. Although the case centers on national immigration policy, it puts Greenbelt's federal courthouse at the heart of a major constitutional fight that will continue unfolding in the coming weeks.
