Autobody Shop Owner From Street Wins $30K On Scratch-Off Ticket

An autobody shop owner popped by a liquor store, bought a ticket that caught his eye and ended up winning $30,000.

STREET, MD — A Harford County business owner plans to put his $30,000 lotto winnings toward his autobody shop after purchasing a lucky scratch-off ticket.

The Street resident stopped at the Liquor Stop in Dundalk earlier this month to pick up a few items when a $30 scratch-off ticket caught his attention.

The 30X Cash game, which launched Sept. 18, started with 320 top prizes of $30,000 each.

“It was a new game and had all those top prizes, so I tried it,” the winner told Maryland Lottery officials this week when he claimed his prize. “I guess I picked the right one.”

The man, who occasionally plays the lottery, scratched his ticket inside the store and discovered several matching numbers with prizes totaling $30,000. But he wasn't convinced he'd won.

He scanned the ticket at the store and received a congratulatory message. Wanting to double-check his winnings, he scanned the ticket again using his phone, but the message he received left him confused.

“I couldn’t believe it, so I scanned the ticket again on my phone,” he said. “But that message said the prize was claimed, so I called you guys for help.”

After speaking with Maryland Lottery officials, the man learned his ticket was valid and he was told to schedule an appointment to claim his prize. But he wanted one more confirmation. So he visited a local lottery retailer and asked the cashier to scan his ticket again. The cashier printed out a message confirming he'd won.

The Liquor Stop, located at 6400 Holabird Ave. in Dundalk, will receive a $300 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for selling the top-prize-winning ticket.
