Teen Arrested After 13-Year-Old Shot Inside Wheaton Mall: Police
A 17-year-old was arrested after a 13-year-old was shot inside Wheaton Mall, Montgomery County police said.
WHEATON, MD — A 17-year-old is in custody after police said he shot a 13-year-old boy inside Wheaton Mall on Saturday evening.
Montgomery County police and fire rescue personnel responded to the 11100 block of Veirs Mill Road around 6 p.m. Friday for a reported shooting.
According to the preliminary investigation, the 17-year-old suspect fired a gun inside the mall, striking the 13-year-old victim in the leg.

Police said the suspect fled toward Dick's Sporting Goods, where an armed security guard apprehended and detained him until officers arrived. Authorities later recovered the gun used in the shooting.
Officers rendered first aid to the victim before he was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Police have not released the identities of the suspect or victim.
