Dozens Of Dogs Adopted After Shelter Falls Into 'Crisis'
The Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter was able to place nearly 80 dogs in homes over the weekend after finding itself in a "crisis."
LUTHERVILLE-TIMONIUM, MD — Nearly 80 dogs were successfully placed in homes over the weekend after the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter found itself in "crisis" after running out of space at its facility.
The situation turned dire Friday, with the facility taking to social media to detail that BARCS had "negative dog space" as it had received over 100 pets in a 48-hour time span.
"The majority are dogs, which are much harder to move around and house safely. Animal Control is on the way with another truck full," read the agency's Friday post.

"Our kennels are full. Our intake temp kennels are full. Our offices are full. There is no more place to put our dogs. We are in crisis."
But, by Saturday, the community turned out — including at an off-site adoption event at the Petco in Timonium, at 1719 York Road.

Between in-shelter and off-site adoptions, foster placements and rescue transfers, 78 pets were saved.
"It was a full, busy, emotional day. And it was a good one," BARCS said in its Saturday update. "Thank you to everyone who came down to the shelter and out to our adoption event in Timonium."
The shelter had explained that most of the pets transferred to its site on Friday had been impounded from Baltimore City Animal Control, due to the center's operating agreement with the Baltimore City Health Department.
To adopt or foster from BARCS, individuals can visit the center at 2490 Giles Road. The center is open Monday through Friday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., and from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
