Man Charged After Making Threats Against Crash Survivor's Family: Police

A 39-year-old Baltimore County man is facing charges after making threats against the family of the teen who survived a fatal car crash.

BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — Imtiaz Sami, a 39-year-old man from Lutherville-Timonium, is facing charges after police say he made threats against the family of a crash survivor.

Court records show Sami is being charged with first- and second-degree assault and using a firearm during a felony or a violent crime.

Police say the charges stem from an incident reported Sunday shortly before 6 p.m. at the 2400 block of Burlwood Road.

At the scene, authorities learned Sami had driven into the neighborhood where 16-year-old Liam O'Donoghue lived with his family.

The teen was one of the kids involved in the May 1 crash that killed two of his friends — 18-year-old Ryan Duvall and 16-year-old Andrew Sober — near the intersection of Poplar Hill and Merrymans Mill roads.

Baltimore County Police Chief Robert McCullough told WJZ that investigators believe Sami "was specifically looking" for the O'Donoghue family.

"He was expressing his outrage to the neighbors about this young man and specifically that car crash and his feelings about that," McCullough said.

Police said Sami had pulled a gun on a neighbor before fleeing the scene.

Citing charging documents, WJZ reported Sami had messaged O'Donoghue's mother earlier in the day, saying he was armed and that her son "shouldn't have lived."

Authorities later tracked down Sami with the help of photos neighbors took of his license plate. A search warrant executed at his home returned more than a dozen firearms, according to WBAL.

Sami remains held without bond following his Tuesday court appearance.
