'Special Moment': Dozens Of Pets Homed After Mega Adoption Event
Dozens of pets were successfully homed after a pop-up adoption event was held inside a former Walmart.
BALTIMORE COUNTY, MD — The "Find Your Lucky Charm" mega adoption event earlier this week saw dozens of pets find their forever homes.
Noelle Patterson, director of philanthropy and communications for the Baltimore Animal Rescue and Care Shelter, told Patch that a total of 70 pets from the five participating shelters were adopted.
Those shelters included BARCS, the Maryland SPCA, Baltimore County Animal Services, the Humane Society of Carroll County, and the Humane Society of Harford County.

"At BARCS, one dog adoption that stood out was for a pup named Shooting Star. She had been in our care since January," Patterson told Patch. "Though her foster mom couldn't make it on Sunday, a volunteer transported her and she got adopted by a big family."
"She absolutely loved the three young kids in the family and fell asleep curled up on the mom's lap while they were meeting her. It was such a special moment," she said.

Adoption fees at the mega event were waived for all animals in attendance, including dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and small companion animals.

Patterson told Patch that the idea for such an event came through the Baltimore Animal Welfare Association, which has brought together shelters for many years.
"While Baltimore Humane Society was unable to make this event, we decided to reach out to some other area shelters to see who else could join us since the empty Walmart space was so large," she told Patch.
Patterson said organizers are shooting for one more big event later this year, with hopes to invite more animal shelters.
