Prince George’s County Animal Services is over capacity, and we need YOUR help more than ever! Volunteers are the heartbeat of our shelter—they walk and train dogs, socialize cats, help with feeding and cleaning, support adoptions at offsite events, and so much more. Without enough volunteers, our animals miss out on the enrichment, love, and exercise they desperately need while waiting for their forever homes.
We have upcoming orientations: Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 10 AM
Teens (14–17 years old) can complete required school service hours (non-animal handling tasks). Adults (18+) can work hands-on with animals after orientation and a facility tour. You might find yourself walking dogs, socializing cats, bunnies, and other small critters, folding towels, preparing enrichment, taking photos, or helping animals shine so they can be seen and adopted. Some days we dress up for fun and to keep things light. Some days we’re at adoption events, giving tours, or helping with meet and greets. Sometimes we throw parties just for the animals. And most days you leave with a full cup from all the snuggles, cuddles, and quiet moments that stay with you. It’s not always easy. And yes, you will fall in love. Over and over again. For those who say, “I could never… I’d want to take them all home.” You might feel that way at first. But then something shifts. You realize there are so many animals who need you, and you find new ways to love them. You show up for them, advocate for them, and help them find their way to a home of their own. Prince George's Stadium

The Chesapeake Baysox invites the community to join them for a night of live music, family activities, and a breathtaking fireworks display.&nbsp;Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and young fans are invited onto the field for&nbsp;nearly two&nbsp;hours of play time, including&nbsp;Kids&nbsp;Run the&nbsp;Bases, catch in the outfield, and an inflatable obstacle course. A face painter and balloon artist&nbsp;also&nbsp;will be on hand to add to the festivities. The&nbsp;evening's&nbsp;concert gets underway at approximately 6:30 p.m., featuring live performances by Blues in a Blender and Honey Sol, with the&nbsp;Star-Spangled&nbsp;Banner performed by Bullpen Brass.&nbsp;All&nbsp;of&nbsp;your favorite ballpark concessions will be available throughout the evening. Then, as night falls, the sky above Prince George's Stadium will come alive with a spectacular fireworks display.

The annual Purcellville Wine and Food Festival returns on Saturday, July 18, in Dillon’s Woods at the historic Fireman’s Field Complex (250 S. Nursery Avenue, Purcellville). The festival will take place from 2 to 8 p.m., inviting guests to gather with family and friends for an afternoon and evening of local wine, beer, food, live music, art, and more.
This year’s event will showcase 40 vendors, including wineries, breweries, food and snack vendors, and local exhibitors. Enjoy live music performances by the Rick Reaves Band, The Darby Brothers, and the Franklin Park Big Band. The “Arts in the Garden” section, hosted by the Purcellville Arts Council, will highlight local artists who will create works of art live on-site. Additional activities include face painting and a photo stand-in booth. 
Early bird ticket pricing is available through 5 p.m. on July 17: 
• Early bird admission (ages 17 and over): $5 (+ tax) 
• Early bird drink tickets (6 oz wine or 12 oz beer): $8.50 (+ tax) 
• Early bird drink ticket package: 4 tickets for $32 (+ tax) 
• Early bird bottle of wine purchase: $35 (+ tax), available from participating wineries (bottles must be consumed on-site)
A souvenir glass will be provided with the purchase of the first drink ticket. Save time and money by purchasing your tickets in advance. 
The popular VIP experience returns for $275 (+ tax) and includes admission for six, a reserved table for six, three bottles of local wine, six souvenir glasses, six drink tickets, early entry to the festival, special commemorative gifts, and a selection of sweets and savories for the table.
