• ICE opens public comment on controversial plans for Williamsport detention facility (localnews1.org) — Federal immigration officials are taking public comments on plans to turn a Wright Road warehouse in Williamsport into a 1,500-bed detention facility, with major new water and sewer infrastructure. Residents are invited to email feedback by July 1, especially about environmental impacts, water and sewer capacity, traffic, and local infrastructure strain. The project follows a court-ordered environmental review and could cost hundreds of millions of federal dollars. 
• Celebrate big America 250 anniversary at these Fourth of July events (heraldmailmedia.com) — Williamsport residents can look forward to a full Independence Day celebration at Byron Memorial Park, with the Williamsport Community Band at 7 p.m. and fireworks at dusk, plus food vendors and bring-your-own chairs. The Greg Shank Memorial 5K at the Williamsport American Legion offers a local race benefiting a scholarship fund, alongside other Washington County fireworks, concerts, and anniversary events.
