School Closures, Parking Ban As Blizzard Hits Arlington
Parts of Middlesex County have seen more than 15 inches of snow.
ARLINGTON, MA — A major blizzard is hitting Massachusetts, and many communities in are dealing with well over one foot of snow.
Parts of Middlesex County have seen more than 15 inches of snow, as of 1 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. A state of emergency remains in effect across the state, and Arlington took precautions ahead of the storm, including closing schools and non-essential town offices.
Arlington closed all municipal buildings and public schools for Monday, Feb. 23. In addition, the city is asking residents to stay off the roads and avoid on-street parking as part of a Parking Ban that went into effect on Sunday at 9 p.m. and will remain in effect until further notice. All vehicles parked on-street could be ticketed or towed while the ban is taking place.

However, parking at the Russell Common municipal lot on Chestnut Street is available for free while the ban is in effect.
"The bylaws require residents and businesses to remove snow and ice from any sidewalks abutting their property following a storm," town leadership said in a statement. "Residents should remove snow and ice from abutting paved sidewalks within eight hours between sunrise and sunset after a storm, businesses and owners of any residential property utilized for apartment house or multi-unit condominium use that abuts a paved sidewalk have three hours."

Trash and recycling collection was also cancelled for Monday and will be delayed by one day for the rest of the week for all residents.
