Hyannis Man Arrested On Child Pornography Charges, Following Tip: Police

The 19-year-old is scheduled for a pretrial hearing on May 13.

HYANNIS, MA — A 19-year-old Hyannis man faces charges of possessing and distributing child pornography, police say.

Joao Nascimento was arrested Thursday and arraigned Friday at Barnstable District Court, according to a statement late that day. He was ordered held on $1,000 cash bail and is due for a pretrial hearing May 13.

The arrest followed a cybertip to state police and a search warrant executed at a Hyannis home by Barnstable detectives with help from a federal cybercrime task force. The tip said Nascimento’s cellphone likely contained pornographic images of children and was used to disseminate the material.
