2 Escape Burning Car In North Shore Overnight Crash

MANCHESTER BY THE SEA, MA — Two people in a car that caught fire after a crash in Manchester by the Sea were able to escape the burning vehicle and were taken to area hospitals for treatment early Friday morning.

Manchester by the Sea fire said the crash occurred on Mill Street in that town at about 12:40 a.m.

Crews said both victims had gotten out of the car before they arrived, including one with "significant" injuries.

Manchester fire said crews immediately worked to extinguish the fire while simultaneously assessing and treating both patients.

Manchester Fire's Paramedic 1 transported one patient to Lahey Hospital & Medical Center in Burlington, a Level I Trauma Center.

Beauport Ambulance transported the second patient to Beverly Hospital.

Manchester Fire units operating at the incident included Car 3, Ladder 1, Paramedic 1, and Engine 1. Gloucester crews provided mutual aid when another fire alarm was struck in the town as crews attended to the crash.

"This incident is another example of the importance of maintaining adequate staffing and strong mutual-aid partnerships," Manchester fire said. "We wish both patients a full and speedy recovery."
