The Beverly Fire Department said crews have responded to 36 calls since the arctic air and heavy snowfall this past weekend.
BEVERLY, MA — The Beverly Fire Department is asking for the public's help in easing the burden on crews amid this harsh stretch of snow and frigid temperatures.
Beverly fire said crews responded to 36 calls from the onset of the arctic cold, and through the storm, as of Wednesday afternoon. Those calls include two fires in Beverly and mutual aid to fires in neighboring communities.
The department asked for the public to check on appliance exhaust areas and their nearby fire hydrants to help prevent calls and aid response in the case of a fire.

"Many high-efficiency appliances exhaust lower to the ground than our older boilers, hot water heaters, and the like," Beverly fire said in a community message. "If those exhausts are blocked, dangerous levels of carbon monoxide can build up in your home. Make sure they're clear, and make sure you have operating smoke and CO alarms in your home.
"You will also see firefighters out clearing hydrants. Please be careful when you see the truck on the road. We can't get to all of them. If you're able to safely do so, please help out by clearing the hydrants in your neighborhood."
