5 Arrested In Boston Police Shoplifting Operation

BOSTON, MA — Five men are facing shoplifting charges after Boston Police conducted an enforcement operation recently in Downtown Crossing.

Edgar Rivera, 39, of Dorchester; Anthony Dejesus-Martinez, 36, of Roxbury; Bobby Mccoullum, 54, of Dorchester; Jaamialle Williams, 52, of Mansfield; and Alvin Whitlow, 71, of Mattapan, were arrested between approximately 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. near the CVS at 631 Washington St. as part of an operation targeting shoplifting and other quality-of-life crimes in the area.

Police said the department has intensified enforcement in Downtown Crossing, Boston Common and the surrounding retail business district in response to an increasing number of shoplifting and quality-of-life crimes. The effort has included coordinating with local businesses and responding to concerns from the business community.

During the Thursday, Aug. 6 operation, police worked with CVS staff to identify several individuals for their alleged roles in organized retail crime. In addition to the five arrests, three male suspects were issued summonses to appear in Boston Municipal Court on shoplifting charges.

The five men are expected to be arraigned in Boston Municipal Court on the charge of shoplifting.
