EAST BRIDGEWATER, MA — A Brockton sex offender was charged with enticing a juvenile from East Bridgewater for commercial sexual activity, police said.

Derek Gaughan, a 55-year-old level 3 sex offender, was arrested last week, the East Bridgewater Police Department said in a media release.

East Bridgewater Police Detective Cecelia Cacciatore launched the investigation of Gaughan in September "following a report of alleged inappropriate contact between a juvenile from East Bridgewater and an adult male," the release said.

"The investigation revealed that the two met and communicated through social media applications," according to the release. "The juvenile subsequently met with the adult male in person on multiple occasions, during which the juvenile was sexually assaulted."

On Oct. 8, Cacciatore obtained a warrant for Gaughan's arrest and a warrant to search his residence, the release said, and both were executed that same day.

Gaughan was charged with the enticement of a minor and the electronic enticement of a minor for commercial sexual activity, according to the release, and his bond was set at $100,000.

"Because the alleged sexual assaults occurred within Brockton, the Brockton Police Department pursued additional charges related to those allegations," the release said.
