Brookline Chinese Restaurant Closes Suddenly After 66 Years

BROOKLINE, MA — A longtime fixture of Brookline's dining scene has closed its doors after serving generations of customers for more than six decades.
Golden Temple, the Chinese restaurant at 1651 Beacon St. in Coolidge Corner, announced that it has permanently closed after 66 years in business.
The restaurant shared the news in a statement thanking the community for its decades of support, reflecting on the countless family dinners, celebrations and everyday meals that took place there since it first opened.

"Since our very first day, your loyalty, warmth, and shared memories have been the true heart of this establishment," the restaurant said. "It has been our greatest honor and privilege to host your family dinners, milestone celebrations, and everyday moments across generations."
No reason for the closure has been provided yet.

Golden Temple opened in 1959 and became locally known for serving contemporary takes on Chinese cuisine while emphasizing fresh ingredients. The family-owned establishment described itself as "more than a restaurant," offering dine-in, takeout and delivery service alongside an extensive cocktail program and private event space.
Beyond its dining room, the business was also known for The E Room, its lounge that featured cocktails, DJs and dancing on weekend nights, making it a longtime destination for both dinner and nightlife in Coolidge Corner.
Golden Temple built a reputation as a destination for birthdays, anniversaries, holiday gatherings and other special occasions, while also serving as a neighborhood restaurant for Brookline residents. The restaurant's website noted its wine program had earned recognition from Wine Spectator and highlighted its commitment to using fresh vegetables, seafood, meats and other ingredients.
In its farewell message, the restaurant thanked customers for supporting the business throughout its six decades.
"While this chapter is coming to a close, the profound gratitude we hold for your decades of unwavering support will remain with us always."
