Brookline Police Celebrate The Promotion Of 6 Officers
A ceremony was held to formally swear in the officers into their new positions.
BROOKLINE, MA — Community members gathered on Wednesday for the promotion ceremony of six police officers.
Nicholas Goon, Daniel Avila, and Sean Williams were all promoted to the rank of Sergeant, while Megan Keaveney, Allen Gustie, and Joe Amendola were promoted to the rank of Lieutenant.
Brookline Police Chief Jennifer Paster began the event by welcoming Town Administrator Chas Carey to the podium. Carey expressed how he feels Brookline is a unique community due to its closeness, and that he attributes a large portion of that to the police department.

“I congratulate these six individuals here today for an incredible job that they have done to reach this point in their careers and I want to thank them for all the work they have done to make this community a better place,” Carey said about the six honorees.
Select Board Chair Bernard Greene then took to the microphone to congratulate the officers, emphasizing that they have earned their promotions not solely because of the time they have put in, but also because of the quality of work they have done in their careers so far. He also urged the officers to reflect on the activity of Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minneapolis, Minnesota as a referendum on how not to conduct police work.

“That was a gang stomping,” Greene said about the death of Alex Pretti. “I just hope you’re thinking about how you as a law enforcement agency would respond.”
Paster said that the main duty of these officers in their new roles is that of leadership, and that she has full confidence that all six of them are prepared to excel in their responsibilities.
All six officers were spotlighted as Paster read off their history within the department before Town Clerk Ben Kaufman joined the new Sergeants and Lieutenants to swear them into their new roles. Loved ones then joined the honorees on stage to pin badges on their uniforms.
Paster then gave the six officers a chance to speak, and all but Goon gave brief remarks.
“I truly feel like I couldn’t have accomplished this without the tremendous support of my wife, Allison. You tolerated long nights of studying and endless exam talk,” Gustie said about being promoted to Lieutenant. “I will do my best to put this department’s best foot forward and continue to serve the Brookline community with honor and integrity.”
