Cambridge Hit-And-Run Suspect Arrested

CAMBRIDGE, MA — A man wanted in connection with a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 12-year-old has been arrested, the Cambridge Police Department announced.

Jayson Wilson was arrested Monday morning in Everett in connection with the July 9 crash on Vassar Street. Wilson was taken into custody by the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section with assistance from the Everett Police Department. Authorities arrested Wilson on Rock Valley Avenue.

Wilson pleaded not guilty in Cambridge District Court on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of personal injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle, and negligent operation of a motor vehicle. He was ordered held at the Middlesex County jail on $30,000 cash bail or $300,000 bond. He is scheduled to return to court Friday, Sept. 18, for a pretrial hearing.

Police first asked the public to help identify Wilson in late July as part of the investigation into the crash. Authorities said he was operating an electric scooter on Vassar Street when he allegedly struck the child before fleeing the scene. Police described him at the time as a man with a "man bun" hairstyle, wearing a teal T-shirt and black shorts, and appearing to have a face tattoo.

The child suffered serious injuries in the crash. Authorities have not provided an update on the child's condition.
