Cambridge Memorial Drive Shooting Suspect Has Next Hearing Delayed: Report

CAMBRIDGE, MA — The probable cause hearing for a Boston man accused of randomly shooting at motorists on Memorial Drive in Cambridge last month has been postponed until July, according to a report from the Boston Herald.

Tyler Brown, 46, appeared virtually in Cambridge District Court on Monday morning. Brown has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from the May 11 shooting, including armed assault with intent to murder, possession of a large-capacity weapon and attempted assault and battery with a firearm.

Prosecutors said they are continuing to provide discovery materials to the defense while preparing the case for presentation before a grand jury. Because of scheduling issues and the implementation of a new grand jury, prosecutors said they do not expect that process to be completed before Brown's next court appearance.

According to court documents, Brown allegedly fired more than 60 rounds from an assault-style rifle at drivers on Memorial Drive, critically injuring two people. Authorities said the shooting ended when a Massachusetts State Police trooper and a former U.S. Marine shot Brown in the extremities and stopped the attack.

Brown has remained behind bars without bail since a dangerousness hearing in May. Prosecutors have previously said he was on parole for a 2020 shootout with Boston police when the Memorial Drive shooting occurred. Court records also indicate Brown had been released from a psychiatric hospitaljust days before the incident and had reportedly expressed suicidal thoughts to his parole officer beforehand.

The case is scheduled to resume in Cambridge District Court on Thursday, July 23.
