Large Fine Issued Over Asbestos Violations At Cambridge Property (patch.com) — Cambridge residents on Sidney Street may notice halted construction after state environmental officials fined the property owner more than $82,000 for serious asbestos and air quality violations. MassDEP ordered work stopped and is requiring a licensed asbestos contractor, underscoring strict rules meant to protect nearby tenants and neighbors from hazardous airborne fibers.

Cambridge Woman Claims Second Grand Prize In New Lottery Game (patch.com) — A Cambridge woman, Wendy Crawford, is celebrating a major windfall after claiming a grand prize in the Massachusetts State Lottery's new Decade of Dollars scratch game. She opted for a lump-sum payment of about $1.56 million before taxes and says she'll use the money to fix up her home, while four top prizes in the game remain unclaimed.
   

3. Cambridge invites residents to join 'Civic Assembly' on surveillance tech (wcvb.com) — Cambridge is inviting randomly selected residents to join a paid Civic Assembly on surveillance technology, with 40 participants earning a $1,000 stipend for four fall meetings. The group will advise on ShotSpotter and park surveillance cameras after recent City Council debates and the city's earlier decisions to end, then temporarily restore, certain monitoring tools.
   

4. Part-Time Babysitter Needed [Cambridge, MA] (tufts.edu) — A Cambridge family is seeking a long-term, part-time babysitter for their 6-year-old daughter, paying $30 an hour. The role, ideal for a Tufts student, involves one afternoon a week plus occasional evenings, with driving to activities, dinner help, and bedtime, and could continue for years for the right local candidate.
   

5. Seattle Real Estate Firm Buys Cambridge Office Building for $25 Million, Plans Residential Conversion (bostonrealestatetimes.com) — An eight-story office building at 955 Massachusetts Ave in Cambridge has been sold for $25 million to a Seattle firm planning 125–150 housing units between Harvard and Central squares. The conversion, one of the city's first major office-to-residential projects, reflects falling office values and growing demand for housing in Cambridge and Greater Boston.
