Cambridge meetings, Sept. 28-Oct. 5: Property taxes, bike lanes to Belmont and Barron Plaza reopens (csindie.com) — Cambridge officials this week will weigh a 6.9 percent property tax levy increase, drought-driven MWRA water purchases, and a controversial delay to separated bike lanes on Outer Huron Avenue. Residents can also join sessions on a geothermal energy pilot, see Lamplighter Brewing's move to employee ownership, and celebrate the long-awaited reopening of Carl Barron Plaza in Central Square.
   

2. Football's Benson Earns NEFW/Grinold Chapter Gold Helmet Award (gocrimson.com) — Harvard safety Benson has been honored with the New England Gold Helmet Award after a standout four-turnover performance in the Crimson's win at Brown. Now he and his teammates are gearing up to host Colgate at Harvard Stadium in Cambridge this Saturday night, giving local fans a prime-time home game to watch a surging defense.
   

3. Major record labels sue Cambridge-based AI platform, again (boston.com) — A Cambridge-based AI music company, Suno, is facing a new copyright lawsuit in federal court in Massachusetts from Universal and Sony, who say their songs were used to train its latest model without permission. Headquartered on Dunster Street near Harvard Square, Suno has grown rapidly, even striking some licensing deals, while courts in the U.S. and Europe continue weighing how AI-generated music should be regulated.
   

4. Here's When Mosquitoes Will Go Away in Massachusetts (wbsm.com) — Cambridge is currently listed among the Massachusetts communities at high risk for West Nile virus, so residents are urged to keep using repellents and covering up outdoors. Mosquito activity should taper off after the first hard freeze in October, but warm days and a rainy summer can keep them active longer, especially in lower elevations.
   

5. How AI Co-Scientists Are Revolutionizing Scientific Research (memesita.com) — Cutting-edge cancer research at the Whitehead Institute in Cambridge is using an autonomous AI "co-scientist" to dream up bold new ways to shut down the MYC cancer gene. Local labs are collaborating with Google's system to sift hundreds of papers, propose radical strategies, and still rely on human oversight, putting Cambridge at the center of a fast-changing era in biomedical discovery.
