Join the Chelmsford Historical Society and the Tsongas Industrial History Center for a special April vacation event that brings the past to life! “From Sheep to Shop: A Hands-On History Adventure” is a family-friendly program that explores the fascinating journey of fiber, tracing the path from raw wool to finished fabric.

This event will take place on Tuesday, April 21 at the Barrett-Byam Homestead, 40 Byam Road, Chelmsford. Drop in anytime between 12-3pm. It is free and open to families and children ages 6 and up, but please RSVP to info@chelmhist.org in advance so we have an approximate count of attendees.

Step back in time as you rotate through interactive stations led by museum teachers:

-The Prep Work: Get hands-on with wool carding and see how raw fleece becomes soft, workable fiber.

-The Spin & Weave: Watch live demonstrations of traditional drop spinning and weaving techniques.

-Be the Maker: Children can "try their hand" at the craft by practicing on table looms.

-Shop: Imagine what the past was like as you visit the Chelmsford Historical Society’s spinning and weaving artifacts and General Store exhibit.

Every young historian will also receive a take-home cardboard loom and materials to continue their weaving journey at home. It’s a perfect blend of local heritage, industrial ingenuity, and creative fun!
